Sustainable Design Project

Using “Okala Ecodesign Strategy” to redesign sustainable product. I chose airport (indoor public) resting chair as the object to redesign.

OKALA GUIDE

Ecological design takes a holistic view of products and services, attending to the complete range of environmental impacts over the full cycle, from material extraction to end-of-life. Systemic tools such as the Ecodesign Strategy Wheel and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) help designers see the wider view and manage a depth of information to steer their work towards more ecologically responsible designs and ways of living.

Cited from “2014 Okala Practitioner Guide”

According to IDSA, the Okala Guide was summarized into seven steps:

· Design for Innovation

· Design for Low-impact Material

· Design for Optimized manufacturing

· Design for Efficient Distribution

· Design for Low-impact Use

· Design for Optimized Product Lifetime

· Design for Optimized End-of-life

MATERIALS & ERGONOMICS

From the seating illustration above, the degrees and dimensions of resting chair (reclining chair ) back pad, seat pad and leg pad can be used in design.
